What to Expect at an Extended Family Photoshoot

An extended family session is one of the most joyful (and often long overdue) ways to celebrate the people you love most. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just making time to get everyone together, these sessions are all about capturing the connections between multiple generations; parents, kids, cousins, siblings, and grandparents alike.

While the session itself will flow just like any other photoshoot, I’ll be working intentionally to make sure we get every meaningful combination. That means photos of each immediate family, grandparents with all the grandkids, cousins grouped together, siblings, and any other pairing that feels important to your family story. You’d be surprised how much variety we can capture in a short time when everyone’s in one place.

These sessions are always such a treat. It's a chance for everyone to get dressed up together, laugh a little louder, and take a break from the usual routine. And let’s be honest coordinating schedules is often the hardest part! But once you’re there, it’s all about relaxing and having fun in front of the camera. I’ll keep things moving and make sure nobody feels stiff or stuck. I’ll guide you with easy prompts and natural posing that allows your connections to shine through.

And here’s a little bonus idea I love: turn your photo session into a full-on evening out! After your shoot, head to dinner together to celebrate. Everyone’s already dressed up, you’re riding the high of spending time together, and it’s the perfect way to keep the good vibes going.
