🌊 Folly Beach Photographer | Why Now Is the Best Time to Book Your Folly Beach Family Photos

If you’re heading to Folly Beach soon… this is your sign to go ahead and book the photos.

Not in a pushy way. Just in a you’re going to be so glad you did kind of way.

Because this stretch of the season? It’s kind of the sweet spot.

🌅 The “Before Summer Gets Wild” Window

Locals know this, and it’s one of those things that’s hard to explain until you’ve experienced it.

Right now on Folly Beach:

  • The weather is warm but not overwhelming

  • The crowds haven’t fully taken over yet

  • The bugs (somehow) are still behaving

It’s that little window where everything feels easy.

And as a Folly Beach photographer, I can tell you this is one of the best times of year for Folly Beach family photos.

🌊 What It Actually Feels Like to Take Photos on Folly

If you’re picturing stiff poses and everyone trying really hard to smile at the same time… that’s not what happens here.

Folly is a little breezy, a little wild, and always a little unpredictable.

Your kids are going to run toward the water.Your hair might not stay perfectly in place.Someone will probably get sandy five minutes in.

And that’s exactly why the photos feel so good.

As someone who spends a lot of time out here, I’ve learned how to lean into what Folly gives us instead of trying to control it.

👶 “But My Kids Melt Down at the End of the Day…”

I hear this all the time.

And I get it. Sunset sessions sound beautiful in theory… but real life with kids is a different story.

But here’s the thing about Folly Beach sessions.

The beach does half the work for us.

Kids are:

  • Busy exploring

  • Running, playing, splashing

  • Completely distracted in the best way

They’re not standing still thinking about whether they should smile.

They’re just being themselves.

And I’ve spent enough time photographing families (and raising my own kids) to know how to move with that energy instead of fighting it.

⏰ “We Didn’t Plan Ahead… Is It Too Late?”

Short answer? Sometimes no.

Longer answer… I always recommend booking your Folly Beach family photography session ahead of time, especially during busy travel seasons.

But I also live and work here.

Which means I occasionally have pockets of flexibility.

So if you’re already planning your trip, or you’re here now thinking “we should have done this”… it’s always worth reaching out.

📸 Why Folly Beach Photos End Up Being the Ones You Frame

There’s something about Folly.

It’s not overly polished. It’s not trying too hard.

And that’s what makes the photos feel real.

These are the images where:

  • Your kids look like your kids

  • You actually look relaxed

  • The whole thing feels like a memory, not a production

And those are the ones that don’t just live on your phone. They end up on your walls.
